Many people knew how to speak foreign language. Even many of us here can speak other languages aside from our mother tongue language. I am just wondering why should we learn foreign language?
In your own opinion why do you think so?

Yes, I agree with you, we also need to know another language like the universal language which is English for us to better communicate with them.
Learning English language is easy. It is part of curriculum in school. It is very much necessary in order to communicate well.
English is part of a school curriculum but not everyone applied it's learning. A lot of children nowadays has the difficulty to make a sentence.
I agree with you, it is really important to learn other things aside from their language.
That is right. It is like your weapon in the end just in case you will travel abroad.
True, it is also good to know various of language and learn their culture, to have more opportunity.

It is indeed an advantage of speaking other language. Some companies specially in the Business Processing Outsourcing, they recruiting a person who is bilingual.
Woe to the person who does not learn new languages. Onecime you will be stranded where people do not understand English and you will be in problems. Another language is often an added advantage in somebody's life.
Another great advantage is that the exercise of learning another language creates new pathways in the brain. This enables you to be more proficient and analytical in life situations, being able to see things from a different perspective. When you study a new language, you also have to understand and investigate the culture of that particular area, and this also contributes to your logic skills and to have a broader vision.
You have forgotten one good reason for learning a foreign language is the availability of the learning methods which you can find in the internet. As what Sir Edmund Hillary said when he reached the top of Mount Everest, “it was there for climbing” which means like the learning ways are there and all you need is to use it for learning a language. However it is not easy to learn a language for you have to speak it often.
Learning a Foreign Language or Second Language next to your Native Language and being highly proficient in reading, writing, comprehending and speaking is very important in this age of globalization. It can open a lot of doors or opportunities in trade and business. Having mastered a foreign language is also very useful for online freelancers and even offline workers because they would be able to tap international clients.
yes, this true. It will help you get into jobs sometimes too.
Learning foreign languages allows you to communicate with different people which might open great opportunities for business or for work. For example, if you know how to speak Mandarin which is the language of the Chinese, you could be an interpreter or you can work as a teacher. It would be easier to go to a foreign land and get along with the people of you know how to speak their language.
There are people that travelled to other nations all because they are able to speak the language of those people. I believe that most of the people that have learnt a foreign language never regret it at the moment.
They can get along with the people easily and build strong connection and understanding, and learn deeply the culture and traditions of the particular people.
I agree with you, and it will be easier for you to adapt too since you know their language.
I believe there are plenty of good reasons as to why we should try to learn other languages apart from our mother tongue. For me, the most important reason as to why I have to learn other languages is the fact that my future is still ahead of me and I might be able to come across people from different countries whose language is very different from mine. For me, the purpose of language is to communicate effectively and be able to create an understanding. And so, because of that purpose, I want to learn other languages to create better understanding with other nationalities whom I might meet in the near future.
I agree with you, if you know the language of the country you are going to be visiting, it will be easy for you.
That's right. Although language only covers a small part of the full experience because you will also need to have a knowledge and understanding of the cultures and traditions of each country that you will visit in order not to misunderstand the locals. But learning their language is definitely a good step.
It's true in the future it might be a good use for job hunting, or maybe a door of opportunity might open because of the language you learned.
There are some companies now specially the Business Processing Outsourcing that is currently looking and hiring a person who can speak bilingual language like Portuguese and Spanish. This is one advantage of learning new language aside from your native language.
Exactly. I am actually studying Korean Language or Hanguk Mal because I am planning to work as an English teacher in South Korea, preferably in Busan. I am still studying as a Bachelor of Secondary Education student and my major is English Language and I'll be graduating (by God's grace) next year. Hopefully, after two years of experience or more I'll be able to apply there and be accepted right away.
Nice. Korean language is a little bit easier to learn than Chinese language I guess. I think you will succeed in your plan. All you need to do is focus and keep on motivated by your goals and ambitions.
Learning other language is not actually mandatory to every people. It is depends on the person if they like to do it for additional learning and knowledge too. There are so many benefits of learning new language and one of that could give us a new job related to it.
Learning foreign languages is truly amazing and beneficial as well. In this present age, having the ability to speak, read, write and comprehend is a great advantage. It can give you open doors to a lot of opportunities. There's a lot of reasons why people learn foriegn languages and one of the main reason is for their business and economic purposes.
What beats me in learning a foreign language is the pronunciation and proper intonation of words. In South Africa, they have words with X that have a click sound. A name like Xuma for instance.
South Africa is widely speaking English language. I was in Angola and they are really difficult in speaking English. Good thing I learned Portuguese and for that I would easily communicate with them.
There are series of benefits that one can get just from learning foreign language and one of them is the ability to understand what people from that country are saying. Imagine a situation where as a freelancer that speaks English, you are able to communicate fluently with a German client. I bet you that the working relationship is going to be really fine in such situations.
I'm a Filipino and Tagalog is our national language. It's a good thing that I know how to write and speak in English, because if I couldn't, I won't be here on this online community where I can share and learn from different people. Being able to speak English allows me to speak and understand the major of the population of the world.
Indeed, the work will be more smooth since you truly understand each other.
We normally meet people of many areas in our lives. Sometimes we go visiting other areas. It will be good to learn the other languages so as to communicate easily.
Exactly, communication is the best way to learning new things and ways of doing them. If you lack the language to get into any kind of conversation will definitely make such event to be very annoying and boring.
I agree. With proper communication skills and good mastery of language will help greatly with communication. Communication is the basis of making friends.
Very well said. This is an extra advantage if you know even the basic language of the country you visiting to. You can easily communicate with them.
I think learning foreign language definitely opens up new doors to the life. And we get to understand how to get the most out of the languages and other things that are changing. Also we get to transfer our cultural knowledge and that is in their own interest too. So people have to be considering the fact that foreign language is in demand in many places.
True, open new doors for working opportunities too.
Yes. often the people who learn foreign language and work on cheap labor. They get more jobs than the locals. So it can be a good experience. So on that note you can see that learning foreign language definitely helps out in many ways.
That is correct. Learning new language other than you are using is another way of communicating to other nationalities. Speaking more languages doesnt mean that you are so smart but speaking and learning these languages might open to you a new opportunity in the end.
Yes opening new doors for the communication. And the thing is that foreign languages are harder to get grip off. So it opens a lot of job opportunities for sure. I have noticed that some people always think about going abroad. In such case knowing that language definitely helps out.
I believe that we have different kind of skills and talent. They decided to work overseas and far from their family because the job that they chose was the only job they knew to do. Learning and studying foreign language might not their tea of cup.
Language is the basic of knowing other people. Language is he first cultural practice of different people that one has to learn. You won't know apeople without first learning the language
Yes culture and the habits are formed around the language. And more one knows about any specific culture, more they can understand how to get the things done. The thing about foreign language is that knowing the language makes us money in due process for sure.
That is right. Good opportunity will come to us if we know how to speak more than our own language.
There are a whole host of reasons, but if we purely look at employment opportunities it’s incredibly valuable to be able to communicate in multiple languages. You have more options available to you for jobs, and often higher paying jobs when you are fluent in several languages.
That is right. There are contact centers that are looking for a person who can speak Bilingual or multilingual. This kind of job offers high basic salary. If you are that person who has that skills why not grab it.
Well, I love to travel and explore the different cuisines and cultures of people all around the world. If you know any foreign language then it can be very beneficial to you in many different ways. Knowing more foreign languages can increase your opportunities to go and work in those countries. You can also earn a lot of money through translation jobs for the foreign languages you know.
Exactly! Language is powerful especially if you have an experience with residing in areas or part of the world where trabalism rules, you will find it very difficult to make any meaningful changes in your life but if you are well versed in using their language, you will be very much good.
True, if you already know the language and their culture it will be easier to you to adapt to the country.
No knowledge is a waste and when it comes to being effective in speaking more than one language, it comes even with a good financial benefit especially if you have the opportunity to work in the embassy as a translator.
Being able to speak on different foreign languages gives you an edge to land in a very rewarding and well compensated job. You can work in any industry that deals with foreign clients.
That is right. One best job also in related to that is a job called transcriptionist. I remember when I had my job contact in Angola which is the full context was in Portuguese, I hired someone to translate it in English because our Embassy did not accepted it in Portuguese language.
I would love to learn a lot of language to have more doors of opportunity ti open and to learn a lot of culture too.
I grew up in Miami, Florida USA; and even as a child it was obvious to me that if I spoke English, and at least some Spanish, and French, it would be very practical. There were many people in that city without me ever leaving the city, the state, or the country that spoke 2 out of 3 of those languages. As far as I'm concerned, the more foreign languages you know the better.
Yea. Learning many languages that you want is not issue. It is your edge to others but not in a bad way.
Languages are vital tools for us to communicate better. As for me, it is necessary for us to learn foreign language to be free from ignorance. This will help us go beyond boundaries of each nation and unite as mankind. It will also give a lot of opportunities and privilege to learn other cultures.
I think that we should learn some foreign language except for our mother tongue if possible because it can gives some advantage in the future. It cab gives some benefits like for example if we are looking for a job, it could help us to easily be hired on a particular company that we would like to work. The world is evolving now and we must go with the flow, we should have some other forms of additional knowledge or skills so that we can stay competitive at all times.
It is indeed could give many benefits not only for our own self but also benefits for our job. Speaking more than one language is an advantage of anyone. Learning it is hard but in the end we would understand it and definitely learned from it.
I would love to learn a lot of foreign language because I would love to travel soon, and it would be a good help that I know their language.
I agree with you on that. Learning language of the place you wanted to visit is much easier for you. Most of the time language barrier is the main problem of the tourist when they visit one country to another. Learning their language with their basic words is an advantage.
I always think of learning some foreign language since I believe it could help me to earn on my online sites in due time. Since I don't have the required money to learn some foreign language, I am just watching some video tutorials at the web so that I can make use of it for free. Although it might be limited at some point since it is not really detailed compare when you will enroll yourself for a course or class but I am already fine with it since I know it is only free as long as I am learning from it.
Being skilled and knowledgeable in foreign language/s, it will give a person more opportunities at work. It will also serve as your advantage towards competitors during job hunting. The advantage of it to your self is the satisfaction whenever you feel like you can understand foreign language. Also, learning foreign language will boost your confidence. That is what I've been looking forward of my plan to study foreign language.
I like that you mentioned it can boost your confidence. That's something I hadn't thought about, but it makes perfect sense. The ease of being able to communicate with others can be a huge self-esteem/confidence booster, which is another great reason to master another language!
Very well said. What you have mentioned to your comment above is really right. Learning many languages that you can is very much have a positive result from from you. We are the one who gets benefits from it.
We have to speak a foreign language like the English language because it's the universal language, and we Filipino's have been colonized by the American's so we have this language in our country. And by knowing that language can make you feel comfortable to go anywhere in the world because most of the people know how to speak the English language.
That's another great thing about knowing multiple languages - it makes traveling abroad to different countries so much easier. I think one of the reasons people don't travel more is a fear of language barriers, but if you speak the native tongue of where you're traveling to there's no need for worry!
Travelling is really easy if you know the basic words language of the country that you gonna visit. It would be easy for you to communicate with the locals too.
I agree with you. We're very thankful that we alwere taught English at such a young age even though it's considered as a foreign language. Knowing English doesn't only give you the ease of access in traveling but it also opens greater opportunities.
Two languages is better than one. This is true in all aspects, specially in business because it opens new doors of opportunities. The more languages you learn, the more people you can talk to and that means more opportunities and ultimately more money.
Learning different language is like breaking the barrier from other people. Discovering their rich culture and been diverse into your own culture. At work, translator is really in demand too.
There are so many but different reasons as to why people learn foreign languages. Apart from the fact that you need to learn the language used in a country if you are an immigrant, some people are earning as translators after learning the foreign language, while others work in the tourism sector, where foreign languages are vital.
In many countries, tourism is a such a quickly-growing industry - and if you're able to speak multiple languages it's something that can really open up your career prospects (and for good remuneration, too!).
It's a great way to bridge cultural differences, by being able to communicate in someone else's native tongue.
Correct. I realized that the tourism and hospitality industry requires some foreign languages. Most courses in those sectors offer two compulsory foreign languages.
That is right. Many tourists visited my country every year and many people here has a job like a tourist guide which speaking foreign language is required. It gives them extra income for that job.
The distances that separate different nations is being refunded by the internet. You now no more need to get to a particular nation before you may need to make use of their language. Take social media for instance, though not required, but learning little about a foreign language can help deepen an already existing friendship with someone from the nation
I think it is very crucial to learn a new language. In middle school, I started to learn Spanish. However, I did not stick to it and eventually removed it from my classes. This was probably a bad decision but looking back I thought most of the world knows English which was very ignorant on my part.
Learning a second language could potentially help you in future job endeavors. There are a lot of positions in the United States that require for you to speak fluently in Spanish. Some of these jobs are high paying and if I would have stayed in Spanish classes I could have possibly submitted an application for the job positions but because I know very little Spanish I was not offered such jobs. So if you ever think of learning a second language you should do it. Not only will it increase your intelligence but it could also end up increasing your bank account.
My high school also had us learn a language, but as a teenager I was also like "when am I actually going to need to use this?!" and it ended up being my "lazy" class.
I wish I could go back in time and tell my surly, teenage self to actually pay attention. These days as an adult there are just so many demands on my time that trying to carve out hours to learn a new language is so tough - but as a teenager I had so much spare time!
I am not a native English speaker. I learn it from school. I pursue learning it because it helps communicate with foreigners. It also helps with your job or business. I think it is an advantage to learn another language. Not only you can interpret of understand another person. You can also learn about their culture,
That is right. Learning other language will help you a lot. Aside from that you will able to learn their culture and traditions as well.
There are a lot of benefits you can have if you can speak foreign languages other than your own. First, it will help you to communicate and easily learn the culture of the country. And second, you can actually find a lot of jobs that have a high paying income if they found out that you can speak 2 to 3 languages, you can make it as your part-time job or second job as well.
True. This is actually a very tempting benefit. Aside from communicating with others from different nationalities, it is a really good way to earn money. Every time I look for online jobs I noticed that the salary for bilingual or multilingual people are much more bigger than the ordinary jobs.
What you have said is true and correct. Learning different language aside from your mother tongue would open a big opportunity to you in the end.
There are plenty of reasons why someone why we should all learn foreign languages. Instead of learning many languages and barely scratching the surface, it is better to learn one or two but attain near-native fluency.
For freelancers this opens up more markets for you. On Freelancer sites where most of the writers know only one language, you could easily be hired to write articles in some other language you know since there is less competition. Better still, most translation jobs pay better than many content writing jobs. That should be a good enough reason to learn foreign languages.
I am from a country that considers English as a foreign language and people here do think that it is very important to learn a foreign language, especially English. Our lives don't only revolve around a small place, we are all affected by globalization in this generation, and being left out will not help you survive. Most products nowadays are labelled in English, especially in our country, wherever we go and whatever we do, we encounter foreign words and we even have to use them in some cases. So, choosing not to learn a foreign language especially English will only put you in harder situations.
We should learn it so that we can communicate to other people not only in our country but to a different country as well, it has good benefits because we can make a lot of new friends from knowing their language.
I've seen a device that converts the English language to Nihonggo, and I think it's a good thing to have especially if you love to travel a lot.
I have seen that also in a video. It is a fantastic device where you can carry it everywhere in Japan. It is very useful I must say because it make our life easy but on the other hand there has advantages of this also like we are going to be lazy to learn and add additional things to be learned like learning basic Nihonggo for instance.
I mean, to some degree I have to ask myself why shouldn’t we learn foreign languages? It’s a big, open world out there with plenty of opportunities. You never know where your business is going to take you, and it may come in handy to know a foreign language.
There are also instances in life where knowing another language just helps in random situations. I used to live in NYC, and learned Spanish as my third language while I was in High School. While on the subway, there was a lady panicking because she was lost and didn’t know how to get to a destination, but she only spoke Spanish. Thanks to the fact that I knew Spanish to some degree, I was able to help calm her down and give her directions to her destination.
You never know when it will come in handy.
Being able to help someone in need is such a wonderful benefit of knowing more than one language. My grandmother was Italian and moved to the US, and ended up having to translate for other Italians many times when they didn't know English and she did. It saved people a lot of stress, and it's such a small gesture that can really change someone's day.
Yeah, it’s definitely a fantastic feeling to be able to be that little ray of hope in someone’s day when it feels like everything is in shambles. I’ve had the experience of being in a country where you don’t know the language and needing help, so it’s such a relief when you finally meet someone who knows the language you speak.
It’s why I’ve actually considered becoming an interpreter in the country I’m currently living in, but even with my advanced understanding of the language here, I still need more practice to speak it fluently. Maybe one day.
I consider myself bilingual because English is our second language and I’d say I can converse in English very well. When we went to Japan last year, I tried to learn Nihonggo so that I could talk with the Japanese. I was good in practicing at home but when we were in Osaka where I find the people friendly, I couldn’t speak Nihonggo because they were speaking to me in broken English. It was such a waste that I had studied a foreign language that I was not able to use.
It happened to me also. I think other countries practice that kind of initiative when it comes to learning language. They knew English is universal language and even they could not speak it fluently they tried their best to talk and speak it because they adjusted themselves to the foreign people when it comes for communication.
Yes, and I really appreciate their efforts for even trying ti communicate with foreign people and help them.
Learning foreign language is an advantage at all times because we can make use of it for future improvements and benefits. We can even used it for money making purposes since we can teach other people who don't have much knowledge about a certain language in exchange for money which is really great to have.
Yes, you can be a translator or a tutor.
Being able to speak different languages has a big advantage. You can communicate well with other people outside your country. If you love to go to other countries, then you won't have a hard time traveling and exploring their cities. It is also a good way to understand what other people say about you who are not aware that you can speak their language. Who knows if someone has been saying bad words about you? At least, you will be able to surprise them and defend yourself.
Yes, that's my thought exactly. I have plans on traveling in different countries and it will be a big help if you know even basic phrases on their language.
I think it's very important to learn foreign language so that we can communicate with people from around the world. I believe this is a crucial advantage, especially if you learn the biggest languages in the world, namely English, Chinese, Spanish, and the like. Personally, though, I like learning languages because I want to learn about other cultures.
People have the same reasons why their learning language. Learning language is like learning their cultures and traditions too.
Right, and when you visit a country it is easier to adjust if you know basic phrase and basic knowledge to their culture.
I like to learn language because I want to communicate with foreign citizens. This will help me understand and know them better or to know their experience. It is exciting to interact with others. We won't find any difficulty especially when traveling. It's good to read and write different language. It's an advantage not to be fooled because of language barrier.
That is true. Learning foreign language is an advantage of everyone. If you know how to speak other language there will be no barrier anymore.
Yes, and it will be easier for you to know what they want and mean.
Me too, and because I want to travel in different countries someday and it is easier to travel when I know their language.
Why should we learn foreign language: Learning to another language os not bad. We all have our own dreams. A dream to work to abroad, a dream to travel the whole world. Its important to learn them to be able to communicate them well.
Yes, and it is easier to adjust if you know there language.
Yes that's true. We can communicate to them well since we know how to speak their language. It's also easier for us to work since we speak fluently on their language.
Foreign languages are everything nowadays. Our entire world is connected, and our demographics are booming.
Have you ever heard the Babylonian tower story? If they had a linguist there, all the builders wouldn't start fighting each other, hehe.
I have heard of that story before. And yes I agree with you, we need to learn other languages to communicate with other.
Learning a foreign language is really a good idea because it can help us to communicate with other people around the world aside from the fact that we can used it for earning purposes. There were a particular instance before that I used a foreign language just to have a conversation from a stranger that I just met on the road and asking for help. The good thing is that I know how to speak English a little bit which leads me to know the needs of the young man and help him for his problem because maybe If I don't know how to speak with a foreign language then I might not able to help him and do some favor with him.
Well I find it advantageous when we are going to learn foreign language because when we are going to another country we won't nee an interpreter to fully understand what the locals are talking about. We can interact with them and also learn something from them.
Aside from learning the culture and interacting to the foreigners, it is also an advantage when you want to work abroad since it would be easier for you to adapt and talk directly to the locals. It would easier for you to deliver or communicate well when you know how to speak their language.
Yes I agree that learning a language is really helpful especially if we will be working abroad because most of the people that we will encounter have a different language compare to what we are using before in our own country. We will learn here on how to use and apply our learning on foreign language and it will really test how good we are on that particular thing. Through learning a foreign language we can easily make a conversation with other people without being afraid of having miscommunication that sometimes really happen in real life situation.
Learning a foreign language can come in handy in a variety of situations. It can be very useful if you want to live or work in another country. Speaking multiple languages can also open many doors for you professionally, especially if you want to work for a company that does business on a global scale or to be a diplomat.
I consider learning different language to be a gift. It is important if you wanted to go abroad and visit different countries for work-related job. Aside from that, it can be an income earner as well. There are online job that requires people who are adept in using different languages. Someone who knows how to speak English and be able to translate it in Spanish, Korean or any other languages and vice-versa. The pay scheme seems to be hefty as well. Bad for me because, I only have a very limited language vocabulary.
Aside from my mother tongue, I can say that I know English well enough and it's really a great advantage for me. I am very grateful to my parents because they sent me to a good school that teaches the English language well. Now, I would like to know more foreign languages. There are more opportunities for you if you know other languages and you can earn a lot from it.
Because it makes us feel a part of this big world and understand other cultures, knowing a forein language allows one to live few lifes at the same time. I know 3 languages and one of them is Italian so when I decided to take a course in the Italian language school, I realised this culture and this language always was a part of me and my soul.
